August 2023 - Fills & Edits + Soundscapes

This month i dive back into drums showing you how i put samples together, layering, rhythm, groove, buss processing and boosting the overall weight and level. 

After that I go through your sample submissions and play around resampling and having a bit of fun making new sounds and variations showing loads of little ways to get more out of your sounds and to maybe think about more creative approaches that you haven't seen before.

First on the tutorial list is how to approach sub bass phasing, weight and movement. This is a really important showcase of how to make the sub stand out and hold its ground.

The second tutorial is a walkthrough of my recent track 'Hydra', I discuss the thought processes, theory and sample selection for this simple yet dangerous track

The first of this bundles tutorials is a track build from scratch. I felt like the idea took a while to get going but it ended up being a nice loop with some interesting routes for inspiration.

The second tutorial focusses on sound design. I have no direction in these sessions, just to be inspired along the way and make sure to hit record for all the little cuts that might become hidden gems for a future track

Included in this months bundles, I return to the rest of the samples sent in for resample submissions to mangle, rearrange, process and create a bunch of new sounds.

For the second tutorial, I go over some top tips when working with mid bass. This includes, layering, arrangement, EQing and sidechaining to help get the cleanest, most exciting sound.

Starting off the tutorials with a no talking video where I showcase a 'day in the life' style sound design session making all sorts of random samples to use in later projects.

For the second tutorial, as requested by so many of you, focusses on how to progress out of a loop. I talk about my theories and approaches when it comes to tension, fills, progression and energy as well as mid bass resampling and utilising the sound pallet already inside the project.

This packs tutorials look at stereo imaging, looking at ways to enhance and control width, depth and space.

Moving straight into gain staging where I give you an insight into how I level my tracks as well as controlling levels through effect chains.

Two exciting tutorials this month looking at reclaiming, enhancing and processing classic drum breaks either bringing them back to life for a modern mix or pushing the levels for a future beat.

The second looks at vocal samples, something I haven't really touched on yet, and how to clean up poor recordings, problem areas to focus on then having fun creating edits with echos, time delays and pitching for those extra ad libs and fill sections

For the first tutorial I take you through a mixdown session for a new track focussing on drum tone, mid levels, sub control and anything else i find along the way.

The second tutorial is a sound design session where i just let the vibe take me. I look at pads, piano processing and serum bass design

Inside this bundle we have 2 exciting tutorials, starting off with a Serum how to tutorial where I go over simplifying complexity and drawing out distortion and harmonics effortlessly. 

The second tutorial focusses on how to build an intro from scratch to inspire me for a track. I look at arrangement, tension and my overall thought process for creating a vibe.

Kicking this bundles tutorials off exploring experimental sound design where I transform a single percussion hit into a ethereal soundscape pad opening up so much inspiration. 

The second is about enhancing mid bass, this one was specifically designed at how to go further out of the soft synth box and bringing sounds to life but can easily be adapted to be used on samples, drum, leads etc...

First off  for this bundles tutorials, I walk you through my track Paprika Dust for a full track breakdown of how I put the track together.

Secondly, I wanted to go deeper into the world of detuning, phasing and modulation talking some techy stuff and some fun demonstrations

Two tutorials are available with this bundle, the first showcases mid bass modulation in serum and how to create unique results with a simple preset to layer and adapt your rhythm and sound.

The second is for making atmospheric drones again with simple layering techniques to create full and rich intros.  

For this month's tutorial I walk you through a simple pad layering technique to create rich and full music beds with interesting movement and dynamics using just one sample.

I use this technique a lot when building intro's and is a great way of adding complexity to an otherwise basic sound

This month’s tutorials take a more creative approach. The first focuses on creating unique atmospherics by MIDI mapping parameters across different plugins and experimenting while recording. I also show free alternatives to the paid plugins used.

The second is a 1.5-hour, no-talking guide to building a track from a simple idea into a solid set of loops. I cover drum layering and EQ, generating mid-bass sounds and movement, creating pads and leads from melodic samples, and more.

In this bundle I once again looking at sub bass but this time focussing it all about movement, how to give your basslines groove, funk and swing for those head bouncing tracks. 

For the second tutorial we're going to get very experimental. I show off some techniques that can really transform a sound from it origin to a whole other level. This is one of my favourite topics as it can be so free with no rules and is always a lot of fun.

The first tutorial in this bundle is about making music from noise, learn to craft atmospheric noise and then tune it to become a unique playable instrument.

The second focusses on making a simple mid bass patch inside of Serum that has plenty of control through macros and LFO's and post processing to completely change the sound for those mid bass progressions

The first of this bundle's tutorials I show you guys whats on my fx send busses and how i like to use them, not only are they perfect workflow tools but also a way to quickly colour, distort and enhance your tracks. 

For the second tutorial, i wanted to get more creative behind how to make fxs, more specifically uplifters and downshifters. For years i just searched riser in my sample library and ended up with the same bland and overused sample. I teach you the fundamentals of synthesising your own samples that goes way beyond just pitching up and down.

Tutorial 01 is about hi hats, loops and grooves. How i create fresh sounding loops from multiple sources to speed up my workflow.

Tutorial 02 is a no talking (i had a cold and my voice was sounding rough as hell haha) session where I'm having one last writing session on a forthcoming collab with Fearful. I break it down to avoid getting lost in the main project so i can focus on whats needed.
